EVEN MORE TRICKS OF THE TRADE(by freddie the wire) All 2 messages in topic - view as tree FreddietheWire Apr 12 2000, 3:00 am show options Newsgroups: alt.locksmithing From: FreddietheW...@webtv.net - Find messages by this author Date: 2000/04/12 Subject: EVEN MORE TRICKS OF THE TRADE(by freddie the wire) Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse I have received several e-mails concerning the opening of padlocks and asking my to explain the "shimming" technique" that I talked about in an earlier post---shimming a padlock is very easy--it consists of shoving a "shim" like material into the shackle hole--(the dogging side) and separating the shackle from the locking bolt--which in most--especially the MCL consists of a spring loaded ball bearing---shims are sold commercially and can be bought from wholesale suppliers--or even BS trade institutes like foley belsaw--if your not in this "trade" your best bet is to order them from foley-belsaw as they do not care who they sell their tools to--locksmith--felon--crook-murderer--kids--they don't care as long as you pay them for it---(if you need their phone number I think I have one of their old catalogs hanging around somewhere--just email me and I'll find it and send it to you)-- now if you don't want to purchase these shims you can make your own by taking a piece of flat spring steel and grinding it thin--it must be ground and filed thin enough to fit into the shackle hole along side the shackle--if you make your own be careful because when they are ground to the appropriate dimensions they are as sharp as razor blades and you will cut yourself very easily with them--thats another reason you should purchase these shims--I think a few years ago when I bought some they cost me about twenty bucks and I got 5 or 6 of them--they work really good!--ok--so you have the shim--now what?--take the shim and run it down inside the shackle hole along side of the shackle post---on the dogging(locking) side--you must run the shim down the "inside" side of the shackle--because you are trying to wedge it between the locking bolt and the shackle's indent--if you are not sure which side it dogs on--then open yours up and look at it so you will remeber which side of the lock "dogs" and which side of the post has the locking indent--if you run the shim down the "outside" of the shackle it will accomplish nothing---you have to slide it in between the spring loaded bolt and the shackle allowing you to pull down on the lock body in turn allowing the shackle to disengage--and presto its open--with practice -and especially with the store bought shims you will be able to open these padlocks faster than you could with the combo!!!--personally I don't use mine anymore--I have moved up and on to bigger and better things--and when it becomes necessary for me to "bypass" a padlock--I just grab the bolt cutters and cut it off--that easy---but I understand that some of you have the need to open these locks without damaging them or showing any sign of force--so that is why I posted the trick!!--and as far as you guys who watch magnum P.I.--stop trying to "manipulate" these padlocks open---you have to really understand these babies before you are able to accomplish this--all of the good locks have "false" gates in them preventing you from "feeling" the combination--and as far as using stethoscopes---LOL--don't do it--you'd only be making a fool out of yourself---theres nothing to hear--leave those "gimmicks" for the T.V. shows--and just use the shims----now I have to post this so I can finish typing out the safe drill points for today---LOL---and all you guys who are emailing me asking for advice--don't worry about it--I wont post your name in here---hell--after I answer your questions I discard your letters and I get too many every day to remember everyones name--LOL---stop worrying--I would never tell the gastopo your names--I understand that they would keep flaming you till the world ends--but only because they have nothing better to do---LMAO--well see you tomorrow--- ciao, Freddie
