FreddietheWire Aug 5 2000, 3:00 am show options Newsgroups: alt.locksmithing From: FreddietheW...@webtv.net - Find messages by this author Date: 2000/08/05 Subject: Impressioning(by freddie the wire) Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse I have recently been getting a ton of email requesting information on impressioning...I find this a time consuming way to bypass a lock...but if you are really a locksmith then it is a great skill to have...but it is more an art form than anything...and even more than learning to pick locks..this takes a great deal of practice...but I will list the basics for ya, the basic principles behind impressioning is that while exurting pressure on a key blank that is inserted in a keyway and bumping this blank up and down...the torque will bind the pins agains the plugs walls and allow the pins to leave tiny little rub marks...or foot prints if you will on the blank....the idea is to carefully file where ever you see a mark...you only take off a little bit at a time as so not to file the cut too deep....then you smooth the cut over and re-nsert it and turn and bump it again causing the pins to rub their "foot prints" into the blank once again....this is a very very hard skill to learn....and takes great patience...your best bet is to practice on a cheap lock...make sure it is mounted firmly...and disassemble the cylinder leaving only 2 pins in it at first....try impressioning it for only 2 pins...when you get that down..add another and yet another and another until you have it down pat....you can also get yourself a black light and a marker that will "stick" to brass without rubbing off...the marker should also be of the type that shows up clearly under the black flourescent light....thereby making the marks even easier to read...now the bonehead on this NG that thinks he owns this place...billy bob bonehead...he thinks he invented this procedure.....however...he did not...he stole it from a guy who created it in california many many years ago...yet billy bob bonehead..markets his little impressioning box at all the shows of the trade....dont bother...its a joke...and you can make your own from supplies bought at your local wal mart...for a few bucks!!!...also..when I used to impression a great deal I had some luck with using grease pencils and water soluable pens....but they do tend to rub too clean on insertion...but sometimes you do get a very good reading...and you dont have to keep running back to your van to hold it under the black light....so anyways...those are just the basic principlies of impressioning...clearly it is much easier to impression a disc tumbler lock ...and no...not like abloy or the GM locks...these have side bars and impresioning a side bar lock is like trying to run a tab at a whore house...just aint gonna happen unless you can apply pressure to the side bar!!! ok...gotta run....I have noticed I didnt get any response on my question about the atm yet...its either because the guys who like me dont know it...or they have not been on yet...I certainly hope its not because you wont share info with a scum bag like myself....lol...seeing how I freely offer up any info I have...and am constantly available to help all of you.....but no biggy...I made inquiries...and should get a copy of the schematics faxed to me by the end of the weekend...will be sure to let all my fans have a copy of the entire diagram...lol...just for kicks that is.....lol am gone...ciao Freddie the Wire LOCKMN1098 Aug 5 2000, 3:00 am show options Newsgroups: alt.locksmithing From: lockmn1...@aol.com (LOCKMN1098) - Find messages by this author Date: 2000/08/05 Subject: Re: Impressioning(by freddie the wire) Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse >.your best bet is to practice on a cheap >lock...make sure it is mounted firmly...and disassemble the cylinder Instead of a cheap lock, use a good Schage or Corbin-Russwin, do not dis-sassemble (these leave excellent impressions without doing anything as you mentioned... also smoke the key (or ultra violet (you can get false readings with the uv light so start with smoking the key first,)). your other suggestion are hit and miss. I don't fully agree with your attitude on the ng, but each their own.
